Although we specialize in family and newborn photography in the Northern Virginia area, including Ashburn, VA, we want to discuss the work of a photographer on the other side of the world in New Zealand, the extraordinary and award-winning photographer Holly Spring. We hope you will take a moment to browse her website featuring the ethereal and magical portraits of a little girl with big blue eyes. The images of that little girl are absolutely stunning and timeless. It’s difficult to do the little model justice with words.

So, why are we discussing a photographer halfway around the world – especially with regard to a newborn and baby portrait blog? If you take a close look at the remarkable photos of her daughter, you’ll notice in one or two of the images that the beautiful child has no left hand as a result of being born with Hirschsprung’s Disease. Holly explains in a Kidspot article that she didn’t want her daughter to feel embarrassed by her difference.

“My daughter is my muse and my heart that inspires me to follow my passion and share these unique photos and digital art with you,” Holly says in a kidspot.com.au article. Several of Holly’s images of her daughter won national and international awards in 2014.

As a loving mother and exceptionally-talented photographer, she decided to create the whimsical images of her daughter. The images show the little girl just how beautiful and special she really is. We believe the images also reflect a mother’s love for her little girl.

A photographer doesn’t have to be in love with their subject to reflect love. They need to be technically skilled, yes, but they especially need to be emotionally sensitive to their subjects. Working with newborns, babies, and children, as well as family groups, is so special for us because we have the opportunity to capture a special bond and love through our portraits. We open ourselves up to letting the children or families of our photos sessions be the muse for that session.
