Turn your House into a Home with Family Wall Art! | Northern VA Newborn Photographer

The charming and family-oriented communities of Broadlands, VA and Broad Run Farms, VA are host to many lovely family homes and well-tended yards! Many of our clients live in the area, and we know they take great pride in their families. It recently got us thinking about what makes a house into a home. As a newborn photographer nearby, our experience tells us the answer is simple. Wall art of your family personalizes a house and makes it yours.

We have two examples for you to think about:

1) If you have ever listed a home for sale, you know that there is a universal rule of thumb when staging a house before putting it on the market: Take down all your personal portraits and pictures. Why? Because potential buyers need to walk through your house and be able to imagine it as theirs. Your portraits and pictures make it into your home – not theirs!

2) A model home in a new subdivision is usually perfectly designed by a professional. It’s gorgeous, and its details impressive. However, there’s also a certain sterile feeling to a model house. There are no personal pictures, no children’s drawings, no souvenirs from a recent vacation. It’s a model house. It’s not a home.

If you need more reasons for ordering wall art of your family, here they are:

• It honors those in the portrait.
• It shows how much you love your family.
• It captures a moment in time or a phase in your lives so that many years later, you can remember and enjoy the portrait and memories.
• As a Northern Virginia newborn photographer, we know that when an infant matures, they will appreciate and enjoy their newborn portrait. They will know you loved them from the moment you saw them.
• Your portraits create a legacy to pass on to your children and their children!
• Professional portraits stand the test of time better than a snapshot or box store print because we print them on museum-quality, archival materials rated for 100+ years.
• There is no better art to display in your home than your beloved family’s pictures!
• Studies have shown that displaying your portraits of your children boosts their self-esteem.

As newborn photographers, we can help you turn your Broadlands, VA or Broad Run Farms, VA house into a home with our poignant portrait photography. Contact us to discuss a wall art collection of family portraits for your home!

8 Tips on Choosing Artwork for the Home | Northern VA Baby Photographer

8 Tips on Choosing Artwork for the Home | Northern VA Baby Photographer

8 Tips on Choosing Artwork for the Home | Northern VA Baby Photographer

Barely ten minutes from our studios is the quiet neighborhood of Broad Run Farms, VA where a few of our clients reside. This family neighborhood, located close to the banks of the picturesque Potomac, is a lovely place to raise a family. It’s not unusual that one of our Broad Run Farms family’s ask us how to use artwork, including their pictures of babies, to decorate their home. We’re always happy to help! (We love pictures of babies too!)

Since most of us don’t have a Picasso painting in our budget, we thought we’d offer some tips if you are thinking of how to use artwork, especially children’s portraits, in your home.

1. Love.
Just as investors buy art for its value, future value, or simply out of love for the piece, you too should buy artwork, including professional portraits, for its value. The difference with family photographic art is that you are purchasing it for its sentimental value!

2. Art is diverse.
Artwork means different things to different people. As a newborn and maternity photographer, we know that all art is deeply personal. Beauty truly lies in the eye of the beholder — which is why although we work with clients to help them select their portraits, we never impose our opinions! Art should evoke emotion, inspire you, stir you. Portraits should do the same. We also offer a diverse array of framing and printing options. There’s something for everyone in our product lines.

3. Think out of the box.
Good art can be found in many places not just in high-end art galleries. Photographers come in all styles and price points. Artwork also comes in many forms. It doesn’t always need to be a traditional framed wall portrait. For example, we offer several frameless finishes for your wall portraits. It’s all in how you’d like it to look in your home!

4. Sizes.
Look for balance when selecting an art piece or ordering portraits. You should consider doing a mock up using paper before actually putting nails into a wall. Or you can let us use our specialized design software. It allows us to accurately size your portraits for your home, on your wall. You’ll know what your portraits will look like before you even buy them!

5. What’s the idea?
Let us know what you think you’d like to do with your fine art portraits. It’s helpful to know for your portrait session. If you’re buying painted artwork, it’s good to know before your purchase it where you’d like to display it in your home.

6. What’s the color?
All artwork, including portraits, should coordinate and complement a room’s design. When selecting art for a particular spot, consider the surrounding decor to be sure the colors coordinate with the room. Even if you want the colors to pop, you need balance.

7. Style?
The style of your portrait or artwork can be pretty much what you want or fall in love with. Again, it’s in the eyes of the beholder! Art doesn’t have to match the style of your home’s design, but it does have to blend or coordinate. “Coordinate” doesn’t mean match perfectly; it means that if you display it, it needs to “work” in the space.

8. Light!
For the greatest emphasis and impact, light your artwork! Great lighting will make it a beautiful and stunning focal point in any room or on any wall.

Remember to always invest in artwork that is personal to you. Whether you’re investing in pictures of babies or a landscape painting, we always tell our Broad Run Farms, VA clients to go with what they love. But when it’s your family you want to display, all the more poignant and, we believe, all the better!

Show your children they’re cherished with wall art in your home | Northern VA Baby Photographer

If we asked you what you are most proud of in your life, if you are a parent you’d likely say your children. Children are the most priceless souls in our lives. As a Broad Run Farms, VA and Leesburg, VA baby photographer, we get to witness that pride and love each time we do a newborn or children’s portrait session. These parents love their child, or they wouldn’t commission or invest in their portraits.

Our clients understand that beyond ordering their children’s portraits, displaying those portraits goes a long way toward demonstrating love and pride for their child. We couldn’t agree more!

There are many reasons why you should hire a professional newborn photographer to take portraits which can take a place of pride on your wall and in your home. Below are four thoughts of why we feel you should consider family wall art:

1. Time ticks on.
It’s fairly redundant to state that time slips away before we realize. Childhood portraits you order today are a legacy you are leaving for your child’s tomorrow – for their adulthood. Taking a few hours in the scope of your child’s life to do fine art portraits is time well spent and time you will never regret having spent.

2. Seeing yourself displayed.
How do you feel when you see a portrait or photo of yourself in your childhood home or elsewhere? It’s a feeling of being loved, appreciated, and feeling special to someone. It’s no different today for children. Psychologists believe that displaying kids’ portraits can elicit a feeling of belonging to something bigger than themselves – a family, specifically, their family.

3. Can your family be considered art?
Of course your family can be considered art! Who better to display children’s portraits in a home than their loving parents? All art has value, but your precious family pictures are priceless!

4. Fine art portraits make elegant art.
Fine art portraits aren’t snapshots. They’re not even simply “photographs.” Our portraits are always carefully planned, carefully composed portraits of the highest caliber printed on museum-quality products. They are works of art worthy of display in your home both as a tribute to your family and as a lovely way of decorating your home. As a full-service photographer, we can help you decide where and how to display your portraits in your home. The wall art products we offer are worthy of the title “fine art.”

If you haven’t reserved a date for your children’s fine art portraits, we encourage you to schedule them now. A family portrait is family art. It’s a family legacy. As a baby photographer here near Broad Run Farms, VA and Leesburg, VA, we believe in the value of displaying photography in your home as part of your home’s decorating design, but, most importantly, as a way of demonstrating your family’s love for each other.

Contact us to schedule your family’s precious portraits. We would love to hear from you.

Does size matter for Wall Art? | Northern VA Newborn Photographer

Does size matter for Wall Art? | Northern VA Newborn Photographer

Any reputable Northern Virginia newborn photographer, particularly here in the Broad Run, VA and Ashburn Village, VA areas, will tell you that size does matter. If a portrait, especially a wall-hung picture, is too small, you lose many of the details which help make a fine art portrait the piece of art it is. So, how do you know what’s the best size?

If you’ve gone through the investment – financial and time – to have professional portraits, do you want to waste it on a tiny-sized picture to hang on a wall? Professional photographers (including a child photographer), recommend that portraits be somewhere between 60 to 70 percent of real-life size if you want to be able to see facial details. With each additional person in the picture, you should go up a size.

Below, you can see the to-scale guide to understanding how different print sizes would look relative to your living space.

See the difference?! A good rule of thumb test is to do the following: Assuming the portrait has been adequately lit, try hanging the picture and step back three steps. Can you still see the color of the subject’s eyes? If you can’t, the portrait is too small. A family portrait of three family members needs to be a minimum of a 20” × 30” inches to be fully appreciated.

From a design perspective, you should keep in mind that once you hang art, the space around it becomes negative space. The negative space “swallows” the portrait and makes it appear smaller than it is. While an 8” x 10” desktop picture looks beautiful on your desk because you’re standing or sitting close to it, on a wall an 8″ x 10″ will appear tiny.

Here is an example:

See how small that 8×10 is on the wall?!

Sizing for your Wall

Once you provide us with your smartphone picture of the wall in your home where you intend to display your portrait, we can show you exactly how the portrait will look like on that wall using our design software. With that software, we can create wall concepts and show them to you directly on the smartphone images of your walls. This software is a phenomenal product able to show you just what your portrait will look like in your home! You avoid having to guess what a certain picture size might look like. An appropriately sized picture can make or break your design in that space!

See what a showstopper the image below is when it’s appropriately sized for the wall?

Now here it is framed.

We can also show you what a wall grouping would look like on your wall! We can show you a variety of sizes displayed to create a showcase wall that stops you in your tracks.

It would be our pleasure to create custom, heirloom artwork for you of those you cherish. As a Northern Virginia newborn photographer working throughout Broad Run, VA and Ashburn Village, VA, we would love to work with you and introduce you to Ever After’s phenomenal client experience! We promise you will be impressed!
